"Hands for Cause" – A fundraising project for Japan and New Zealand
On the 18th March 2011, EIS Grades 9 and 11 students decided to organise a fundraising event. This day involved all EIS students as they raised funds to help the victims of Japan's Earthquake, Tsunami Disaster and New Zealand's recent earthquake.
The School was bustling with activities as early as 7am, when the Grades 9 and 11 students started the day with the "Super Car Wash". Parents and teachers had their car wash by the students for $10. Students were busy serving parents with light breakfast while waiting for their cars to be ready.
As the School day started, colours were seen everywhere as our teachers and students came in their favorite clothes and pay $2 towards the fund for the "Free Dress Day".
The Grades 9 and 11 students also tested their entrepreneurial skills by having a bake sale. They were selling international cuisine such as pasta, sandwiches, and hot dogs!
The day continued with much fun. The students were involved in the "Sponge Splash". Our teachers were blindfolded and seated in chairs and sponges of water will be thrown at them by the students for a donation – all for good cause.
The junior students were happily having their face painted by the seniors for a 50 cents donation.
At the end of the day, our students raised a total of $3,332.05, this was an impressive amount. In support of good cause, the Chairman and CEO, Mr Ng Boon Yew also made a donation of $1,667.95 as a personal gesture to the Red Cross. This totaled up to a whopping $5,000 from EIS to help the countries.
Kudos to all the students who organised this fundraising event; and a heartfelt appreciation to all who participated to make it a great success.
