Action for Japan
by Grade 2 students
Following the earlier fundraising project organised by the senior students, our young students from Grade 2 continued the fundraising effort for the Japan's earthquake and tsunami victims.
After a discussion about 'Empathy' with the class teacher, the students came up with the idea of organising a garage sale to raise funds. This would also help in reducing waste as families could recycle items which in good conditions that they no longer need.
The students came out with posters to advertise about the sale and were busy collecting the recyclable items. Our wonderful class mothers were also chipping in by organising the items, pricing them and helping the students to setup for the sale. Some mothers also made handcrafts such as floral hair pins. Along with the garage sale, the students decided to include a bake sale.
The sale was a huge success, collecting a neat sum of S$1,306.60 to be donated through the Red Cross. We are so proud of our Grade 2 students who are showing empathy to others, and the willingness to go the mile to organise the sale. Our class mothers have also guided the children and helped in amazing ways to make this sale a great success.
It is important to note that efforts to help are on-going and this does not mark the end of what EIS and the students will be doing to help the less fortunate. |
